Angels have rival MLB execs 'convinced' they'll make a bold John Mozeliak decision

The Los Angeles Angels have had quite the last month or so, as they finally sold at the MLB trade deadline, parting with key players, and not just rentals.

But the biggest news was that Arte Moreno was selling the team. Angels fans should be ecstatic that Stan Kroenke is taking over, as they might now finally be back to a contending team. With a new owner come some changes.

One of the big changes could come in the front office. After taking over mid-season, John Mozeliak's future is up in the air with new ownership coming to town. But USA Today's Bob Nightengale is reporting that rival executives believe Mozeliak isn't going anywhere.

"Rival MLB executives are convinced that John Mozeliak is staying put in Anaheim and will be the Angels' president of baseball operations, and if there were any lingering doubts, they were erased when he restructured the front office last week," Nightengale writes.

This would be a bold decision from the Angels, as keeping Mozeliak on long-term as the president of baseball operations and the decision-maker would be a big commitment.

They brought him in as a stopgap for the rest of the 2026 season after firing Perry Minasian mid-season. But now, it's looking like Mozeliak might've won over the job long-term.

Making him the new leader of the front office would make sense for the transitioning Angels franchise. Going from one owner to another is a big move, and it's become clear this team needs a proper rebuild.

They began at the MLB trade deadline, selling Logan O'Hoppe, Chase Silseth, Jose Soriano, Jo Adell, Brent Suter, Kirby Yates, and Ryan Zeferjahn.

Those weren't just rentals; Soriano, Adell, and Zeferjahn were big pieces under club control beyond the 2026 MLB season. In most years, the Angels would've kept them all.

But Mozeliak sold them and got some decent prospects and MLB-caliber players in return. This rebuild will be overseen by Mozeliak, and he was the one who really got it started during the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
