Boise State head coach calls Western Michigan undefeated and meant it

The Michigan Wolverines are 3-0. Even if most of the country does not accept that. A last second adherence to a rule most spectators were unaware of led to a last second win. A win most people believe belongs to Western Michigan, not Michigan.

In a recent press conference, Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson gave a voice to the fans that felt Western Michigan was robbed of a win they deserved. For the first time in recent memory, a majority of college football fans actually believe a win should be taken away and awarded to the previously viewed loser of that game.

According to Yahoo Sports, the NCAA confirmed they do not have the power to overturn a result. Even though they also admitted, “The committee agreed that the instant replay protocols were not followed in the contest's second-to-last play. Had the protocols been followed, the outcome of the game would have been different." Despite the NCAA’s willingness to simply say, “oops our bad”, Danielson is not as eager to simply ‘let it go’.

Danielson was left impressed by Western Michigan

As Danielson prepares to take on Western Michigan on Saturday, he would obviously go back and watch tape of those Broncos. He left those film study sessions clearly impressed. He even referred to their defense as a ‘stingy defense’. Danielson acknowledged he has not succumbed to hype or outside pressure. Based on what he saw, Western Michigan is an undefeated team through three weeks.

“We I went back to study this? Unbelievable,” Danielson started. “They’re an undefeated football team. Period. End of story. You watch that game… they absolutely beat Michigan at Michigan and that is not hype, that is what happened. To coach Taylor and his staff, I tip my cap to them because that defense held Michigan to 12 points or 13 points. Six points, excuse me. Unbelievable.”

While many will focus on the adamant stance that Western Michigan rightfully won that game, the impressive trolling job was correcting his math. Michigan did finish the game, technically, with 13 points. Danielson corrected his math by reducing it back to only six points. Representing the last second touchdown, many believe Michigan should never have been given an opportunity to win.

Boise State is off to an interesting start of their own. Boise State is currently seven minutes short of being undefeated themselves. They began their season taking on the vaunted Oregon Ducks. Sitting with a No. 2 national ranking, the blue Broncos almost took down a perceived titan. Oregon would get exposed the following week, losing to unranked Oklahoma State 39-31. Boise State would then handle business against South Dakota, winning that game 38-24.

After their week 4 matchup vs Western Michigan, Danielson’s Broncos will embark on their inaugural in-conference schedule in the rebuilt Pac-12 conference.

Boise State travels to Kalamazoo to take on Western Michigan. That game will kick off at 3:30pm EST and broadcast on ESPN2.
