Brewers explode for 20 runs as playoff ticket becomes official

The Milwaukee Brewers officially punched their ticket to October on Friday night, and they did it in emphatic fashion.

Milwaukee overwhelmed the Cincinnati Reds 20-0, using an unexpected power surge to secure its fourth consecutive postseason appearance and eighth playoff berth in the past nine seasons.

Garrett Mitchell delivered the biggest swing of the night, blasting Milwaukee’s first grand slam of the season. The Brewers finished with four home runs, an impressive display for a club that entered Friday ranked last in Major League Baseball in homers.

The victory improved Milwaukee to 92-56 and guaranteed the team a spot in the postseason field. However, simply reaching October is no longer enough for a franchise that has become accustomed to playing meaningful baseball late in the year.

Manager Pat Murphy acknowledged the accomplishment with a clubhouse toast while making sure his players understood that bigger goals remain ahead.

“It’s not something to take lightly because it’s really hard to do,” Murphy said. “We checked off one box, but we’ve got a lot more to go.”

Milwaukee’s next objective is securing the NL Central crown. The Brewers hold a commanding 10-game advantage over the Chicago Cubs, with their magic number sitting at four.

After that, attention will shift toward making a deeper postseason run.

The Brewers were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in last season’s National League Championship Series, leaving unfinished business for a Milwaukee team hoping for another opportunity this October.

Milwaukee sends MLB a warning

While home runs haven’t defined the Brewers’ offense, their ability to hit for average and reach base has helped make them one of baseball’s most successful teams. Milwaukee also believes its starting rotation, led by Jacob Misiorowski, could become a major weapon during a postseason series.

“You have to celebrate the moment, no matter how big or small,” Mitchell said.
