The Chicago Bears lost to the Minnesota Vikings 9-3 on Sunday in an unfortunate divisional loss that they didn’t want to suffer this early in the season. However, at the end of the fourth quarter, losing wasn’t what they were worried about.
Quarterback Caleb Williams went down with an injury that looked really bad. It turned out to be a hamstring injury, which still isn’t good.
“Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will undergo tests Monday to determine the severity of the right hamstring injury he sustained against the Vikings,” ESPN’s Courtney Cronin wrote. “Williams exited Chicago's 9-3 loss to the Vikings midway through the fourth quarter with the Bears deep in Minnesota territory.”
Williams going down was detrimental, as it was like the life got sucked out of the stadium. A report suggested that he would only be out for a little bit of time, maybe even playing in Week 3.
“Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is considered "week-to-week" with a right hamstring injury he sustained in a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, coach Ben Johnson said Monday afternoon. However, Johnson said he was not yet ruling Williams out for next Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles even though he does not expect the quarterback to practice this week,” Cronin wrote.
That is great news for the Bears and their QB. However, there was backlash from people around the league. Former Philadelphia Eagles player Emmanuel Acho went as far as saying Williams broke a sacred rule.
“"Crying on the cart, fist bump is reserved for done for season or career. I think Luke Kuechly, done for career. Think about Dak Prescott breaks his leg" Acho said. I think about Jaydon Reed can't move in the cart motionless. The crying, tears, fist bump, that is sacred in the NFL. That is like fallen soldier, this is it cover you with the American flag, everybody take a knee."
Acho was not happy that Williams made it seem like he knew it was the end of the season for him. To his defense, it may have seemed like a serious injury, but no one really suspected a hamstring injury with the way everything transpired.
Acho wasn’t the only one unhappy with Williams’ reaction, but he is the one who acknowledged that he broke a sacred rule. The former Eagle is right that players only ever make a gesture to the crowd and cry when it’s season-ending.
