How Bears can make NFL history with 37 points in Week 2 vs. Vikings

The Chicago Bears began the season on the road against the Carolina Panthers. It was quite the debut performance for Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson in their second season together.

A massive 59-point game to beat the Panthers was easily the most points scored in Week 1 this season, and now, looking ahead to Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings in Chicago, the Bears have a chance at some impressive history.

As ESPN research shared, if the Bears can score 37 points, they will break the NFL record for most points scored by a team in the first two weeks of a season in NFL history.

"The Bears need 37 points to break the NFL record for most points scored in a team's opening two games, currently held by the 1968 Raiders (95)," ESPN research shared.

Chicago's offense is one of the most potent in the league, and it would not be a surprise if they scored 37 points in any given week.

However, there is one issue for the Bears in Week 2 of the 2026 season: they're facing the Vikings and defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

The Flores vs. Johnson matchups over the years have been incredible theatre, but the Bears scoring 37 points might be a tall task for such a talented defense.

But if there's any offense that's going to accomplish that feat, it's going to be this year's Bears team. Caleb Williams is incredible, the running back duo is elite, and the receiving corps is fantastic as well.

They scored 59 points in Week 1, and if they score 37 in Week 2, they'll have scored 96 points in the first two weeks, which has never been done before in NFL history.

While it's a long shot, they also could potentially be the first team ever to score 100 points through only two weeks. They need just 41 points, or six total touchdowns.

Thanks to the Bears' own shaky defense, Johnson and the offense will need to put up a lot of points to win every week. Since this offense is incredible, it would not be a surprise if they continued to put up elite offensive numbers this season.

While Week 2 is a tough matchup against the Vikings, all the Bears need to do to etch their names in NFL history is put up 37 points. It's very doable for this team, and they're going to have a real shot at making some incredible NFL history in Week 2.
