It hasn't exactly been an easy season for the New York Giants. The team has a new head coach in John Harbaugh, and right away, in Week 2, he was faced with the team's franchise quarterback, Jaxson Dart, going down for the entire season with a serious injury. Sure, Harbaugh is a veteran coach, but that's still a lot to handle with a new team.

So, the Giants made a deal with the Minnesota Vikings to bring J.J. McCarthy over to New York. The Michigan product will now start over quarterback Jameis Winston in the team's game against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

J.J. McCarthy shares what he told Jaxson Dart after getting the starting job

McCarthy is getting the start, and speaking to the media about the change, he revealed what he told Dart after being named the Giants' next starting quarterback. He explained that after getting the call to start, he had a small conversation with Dart.

"We're both just rooting for each other," McCarthy said about his talk with Dart, according to the Giants' official website. "And like I told him, I'm doing the same thing that you want: help win the football games for this organization and do everything we can and be the best versions of ourselves every day to help the collective."

He added, "It's been great conversations. I love Jaxson. We've worked with the same QB coach out in California for a long time, so we have a prior relationship."

So, it's all hugs and kumbaya between McCarthy and Dart. McCarthy even mentioned that although Dart "hasn't been in meetings much," he believes he'll be back this week, and he's looking forward to it.

"It's going to be great because he is such a smart player and obviously very well-rounded in this offense," McCarthy said. "It's going to be awesome to just ask him really anything and pick his brain about anything."
