Mets’ Marcus Semien warned ahead of 2027 MLB season despite $46M contract

The New York Mets have taken risks on certain players over the past few seasons, and unfortunately, not all of them have worked out.

One of the guys the Mets tried to do that with last offseason was Marcus Semien, a very good veteran who has done a lot throughout his impressive Major League Baseball career. While Semien hasn't played at the level anyone hoped for early in his Mets career, he is still done enough to suggest he can figure things out.

However, as he ages, some worry that's not really the case. The Mets will have a tough decision to make, though the latest report suggests nothing is guaranteed for Semien beyond the money remaining on his contract.

New York also has an interesting first-base situation to figure out after the failed Jorge Polanco experiment.

“Stearns and Green have both made it clear that Marcus Semien won’t be guaranteed anything heading into his second season with the Mets (other than the $46 million remaining on his contract, that is).

“At first base, meanwhile, the Mets will give at least some reps to Jared Young, who’s coming off a serious concussion and figures to face some external competition,” Anthony DiComo wrote.

Last offseason was a disaster for the Mets, and one that could have put the team in a much better position than it is currently in.

The Mets aren't done just yet, though; if they're willing to spend, they'll be in a position to win some games. The Mets just have to spend that money on the right players and hope things work out.
