While the MLB season is fully in the rearview mirror, and the early days of the offseason are in motion, the award season is in full swing. Whether it's the MVP awards for the respective leagues, Silver Sluggers, or Golden Gloves, they're all up for grabs.

But there's one award that keeps finding some ties back to the Philadelphia Phillies: the Cy Young Award. For the second year in a row, one of their starters has been nominated for the prestigious award.

The nomination comes off the heels of what was quite an impressive season for Sanchez, despite the Phillies' struggles over the course of the campaign. Across his 33 starts last season, the Phillies ace recorded an 18-7 record, with his 18 wins being an MLB-leading metric, posting an ERA of 2.91 and fanning 231 batters in the process.

To put it simply, when he was on the mound, Sanchez was on top of things, and this impact was felt on the team as he posted yet another Major League-leading metric, a WAR of 8.1, the same as he did in the year prior.

However, even with these impressive feats, Sanchez has some stiff competition in the category, including World Series winner Jacob Misiorowski, and divisional rival, Chris Sale from the Atlanta Braves.

The winner of the award will be named on November 11. If he is to win the award, Sanchez would be the first Phillie to do so since Roy Halladay in 2010.
