Red Sox receive bold postseason prediction that actually makes sense

The Boston Red Sox have had quite the 2026 MLB season. From firing Alex Cora early to now being in the thick of the postseason hunt, it's been a wild ride in 2026.

But the Red Sox are likely headed for a spot in the postseason, where they're likely to compete against the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays as the other best teams in the American League.

With the postseason right around the corner, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer shared a prediction for the entire American League postseason, which featured a bold but realistic prediction for the Red Sox that would result in a World Series appearance.

Red Sox predicted to make World Series amid bold playoff prediction

Rymer is predicting that the Red Sox will finish 91-71, earning the No. 2 wild card spot, with the Yankees earning the top wild card spot with a 92-70 record.

That wild card series would occur in New York, but Rymer is predicting it will be the "Red Sox in 2."

It's quite bold to predict the Red Sox would win two straight games in New York, but this prediction comes with the caveat that Payton Tolle and Sonny Gray pitch. If the Red Sox have their aces go, their odds of winning the series would increase significantly.

Then, in the second round, the Red Sox would face the Rays in a best-of-five. Rymer is predicting it will be "Red Sox in 4," with one of the main reasons being that the Red Sox "would be the best road team (40-31) left standing in the AL playoffs."

Being able to win games on the road in the postseason would be huge for any team, and the Red Sox are the best at it right now. Rymer is predicting that their road success will carry over into the postseason, resulting in an ALDS win over the Rays in four games.

Finally, in the American League Championship Series, Rymer has the Red Sox going up against the Cleveland Guardians, with the final result being "Red Sox in 6."

This path to the World Series for the Red Sox is a very realistic one. All three of these teams could make it as far as Rymer predicts they would. Only the Guardians would be a mild surprise, but they have a knack for making the postseason interesting.

Looking at all of these series predictions, all of them are fairly realistic. Boston could easily beat the Yankees in a three-game series, as their pitching is elite and their offense with Roman Anthony back could be deadly as well.

The Rays series would be the toughest of this stretch by far, but it's not unrealistic for the Red Sox to come out on top if their offense stays hot.

Finally, beating the Guardians would likely be their easiest matchup of this stretch, as the Guardians are a pitching-focused team, and the Red Sox can go head-to-head with their own elite pitching staff while also putting out a dangerous lineup.

Rymer is predicting the Red Sox will make the World Series this year, beating the Yankees, Rays, and Guardians to get there. It's a very realistic prediction, as there's nothing overly egregious about this bold prediction that would make it seem impossible.
