Elizabeth Holmes, one of the most famous liars in the world, whose demeanor is uncomfortable and somewhat unnerving, has been the subject of a secret documentary by the master of awkwardness and deception: Nathan Fielder. A24's You Can See Everything looks utterly ridiculous.
Elizabeth Holmes, who was charged with defrauding investors in connection with her health technology company Theranos, has already been the subject of a dramatised miniseries, The Dropout, and a documentary. However, this particular documentary promises to be a little different, and if you know Nathan Fielder, you'll know why.
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim were given almost unfettered access to Holmes and her husband Billy Evans during the weeks leading up to her prison sentence, and Nathan actually lived with the couple before her sentence began.
Speaking after a screening at the Telluride Film Festival, Nathan said: "I really am struggling to this day to understand exactly what I experienced,” speaking about the three-year filming process.
He also added that he was excited for people to help him unpack what they documented: "One of the things I'm genuinely excited about is for this movie to come out and for people to help me understand what I experienced. Truly, to this day, I don't quite know what I went through.”
The documentary continues after Holmes goes to prison, with Nathan Fielder reportedly visiting her inside – but one of the biggest talking points after the screening was the twist involving an unnamed notable Hollywood actress. The audience was asked to omit the name from reviews, because the reaction was really that dramatic.
