We Have An Update On Dolly Parton’s Cause Of Death — And Her Mindset In The Final Days Of Her Life

Yesterday, Aug. 25, we received the devastating news that Dolly Parton has died at age 80. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced the news in an Instagram video the same day.

"By her example, we believed that anything was possible," Bryan said in the video. "She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family, whether you liked it or not."

"Our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit will live with us forever. Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy. He farmed the soil. She farmed songs and happiness," he continued. "Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest." The family's initial announcement did not reference Dolly's cause of death. However, her team subsequently confirmed that she died after a "brief battle with cancer."

"Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched," the rep told People later on Aug. 25. "Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand."

"Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact," the statement continued. "After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones."

The type of cancer was not disclosed. Dolly was admitted to the hospital on Friday, Aug. 21, just four days before her death. She was reportedly dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues.

Just last week, Dolly herself told People that she was navigating some "hard times with my health," but was still keeping busy. Now, an exclusive source has spoken of her positive mindset in the final days of her life.

"From the time that Dolly Parton was born, she was surrounded by faith, by God, by Jesus. Her grandfather was a preacher. Even in her Broadway show, she shows how much faith means to her. And so it’s natural for people of faith to believe that God is in control," the insider told People. "It doesn’t matter what doctors may say, people may say. It’s not over until God says it’s over. I think she lived every day working and as long as God hadn’t called her home, she was here and she had more work to do."

The insider explained that in the Pentecostal faith "the things that you give power to, the things that you speak out loud are the things that are going to come." Because of this, Dolly chose to "speak life" and "abundance," not "death."

"I think she truly put her life in his hands and said, 'When it’s my time to go, it’ll be my time to go,'" the source added. "And I know that she leaned on her faith during these last few years. It’s how we deal with hardships in life."
