The Philadelphia Eagles are going through some struggles as a team right now, as they're 2-3 after losing three straight games.
Unfortunately, the Eagles got some horrible news on Thursday, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Jalen Hurts is going to be out for Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers.
This is a stunning announcement for the Eagles, but why is he missing this upcoming matchup? Well, Hurts has a scary issue with his calf, as there's a "superficial blood clot" in his calf that's forcing him to sit out for this weekend's matchup.
Why Jalen Hurts was ruled out by Eagles for Week 6
"Breaking: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is out for Sunday due to a superficial blood clot," Rapoport reported Thursday.
This is a huge surprise for the Eagles, and comes at a bad time as well, with the team currently 2-3 and trending in the wrong direction.
Rapoport also shared the statement from the Eagles on Hurts' calf issue, revealing some insight into what actually was going on for the Eagles' QB:
“On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf. He informed the medical staff he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first treatment session for the calf injury following the game, after having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report."
After practicing all week, Hurts popped up on the injury report with a calf issue, which Eagles' fans took note of. Hurts didn't run the ball much against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, and now a few days later, this calf issue seems to be one reason why.
The Eagles continued with their statement, revealing that an ultrasound was performed on Hurts before the Jaguars game, but the Eagles and doctors determined he could safely play. But on Wednesday night, things changed.

"On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority," the Eagles stated.
This is a worrying update for the Eagles and Hurts for obvious reasons. This isn't a simple issue either, as the Eagles will be very careful with Hurts going forward.
In a season that's gone completely off the rails, the Eagles have now lost their starting quarterback for an undetermined amount of time.
Tanner McKee will be the starting quarterback while Hurts misses time, which could be for an extended period as they try to get this blood clot in his calf right.
Hurts is out for Week 6 against the Panthers due to this blood clot issue, and might miss more time as the Eagles, Hurts, and doctors determine the best course of action.
