Why Raiders' Kirk Cousins may have an extra challenging time against the Patriots

The Las Vegas Raiders finally lost their first game of the season in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but boy, it's been quite a run. Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins has really led this team to wins, and they've already won the same amount of games that they did by the end of the season last season.

So, there's really no reason for the Raiders to feel bad about one loss. But it's time to get back on track and get a win over the New England Patriots in Week 5.

But it's worth pointing out that Cousins will be without one of his favorite targets in this game. It's a reality that ESPN brings up in their NFL Week 5 preview of the season.

The Raiders' wide receiver depth will be tested against the Patriots

Ryan McFadden of ESPN makes the point that the Raiders' wide receiver depth "will be tested" this weekend. With Jalen Nailor likely sidelined for a concussion, the team's wide receiver tally features Tre Tucker, Malik Benson, Cody White and Dareke Young. They'll also be able to use tight end Brock Bowers as a receiver.

"Still, Las Vegas is going to need their wideouts to step up more, as Tucker is the only receiver with more than 20 targets," he adds.

So, Cousins will have to make do with fewer familiar targets. But he's a veteran, so it's certainly nothing new to this signal-caller.

They do have something going for them, though. According to ESPN research, "The Patriots have had multiple turnovers in five straight games (including the playoffs), which is the longest active streak in the NFL." So, if the Vegas defense can really get to Drake Maye, there's no reason the Raiders can't get some turnovers in this game.
