Why Ronald Acuna Jr.'s brother is one of the worst hitters in MLB for White Sox

The Chicago White Sox lost 121 games just two seasons ago.

Now, they are fighting to make the postseason and win the division for the first time since 2021.

Chicago is one game behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central standings.

To book an automatic trip to the ALDS, the White Sox will need productive weeks from the everyday players.

However, it may also include their bench players, some of whom are having a better offensive year than others.

Outfielder and shortstop Luisangel Acuna, the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., is having a poor season at the plate.

In fact, Acuna's offensive performance has been one of the worst in the Majors. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer named him Chicago's worst player of 2026.

"To be fair, Edgar Quero has taken exactly as many plate appearances (217) as Acuña and has been even more of a straggler, to the tune of -0.8 rWAR. At least he's off the roster, whereas Acuña is still doing the bad kind of damage," Rymer wrote.

In 98 games, Acuna has a .227/.260/.261 slash line with just one home run and a .522 OPS.

"He has only a 47 OPS+ for the season, making him 53 percent worse than the average hitter. Among hitters with at least 200 plate appearances, only three have been less productive at the plate," Rymer added.

Acuna may not see much playing time in the postseason, but he can provide value with his legs.

The 24-year-old has 17 stolen bases in 23 attempts and ranks in the 98th percentile for sprint speed.
